Statement by Matthew Dubé on Alexandre Despatie’s retirement

Alexandre Despatie had an outstanding career. From an early age, Canadians followed his diving adventures throughout the world.

Despatie is an inspiration for many young athletes, and remains the only diver ever to win gold in the 1-metre, 3-metre and 10-metre springboard competitions at the World Championships.

He has been an example of determination and hope and led an entire generation of youth to take an interest in diving. As Official Opposition Sports critic, I would like to personally thank him for all he has given for his country.
