Statement by the Leader of the Official Opposition on the commemoration of the Great Upheaval

Official Opposition Leader Tom Mulcair made the following statement on the 260th anniversary of the deportation of the Acadians:

“On this Day of Commemoration of the Great Upheaval, the NDP joins Acadians near and far in paying tribute to victims and celebrating the vitality and resilience of the Acadian people.

We pay tribute to the victims who showed courage by resisting despite the fear of deportation. Despite this tragedy, Acadians have become the proud and strong people they are today.

Let us remember this message of hope on this sad anniversary.”
