Canada's NDP

REALITY CHECK: Inflation surges as Freeland cuts

For the 2 million Canadians collecting the Canada Recovery Benefit (CRB), life is going to get a lot more difficult on two fronts.

On one hand, Canada's inflation rate increased to 3.6 per cent in May. This means everything from food, housing and transportation has gone up. Those CRB dollars simply won’t buy what they used to. Life is getting a lot more expensive.

On the other hand, Justin Trudeau’s Finance Minister Chrystia Freeland is cutting non-stop after lockdown measures are lifted. That’s right, instead of accepting the NDP’s modest proposal to simply extend the current level of payments for those 2 million CRB collecting Canadians, Freeland is slashing CRB. Worse yet, she bafflingly refuses to even recognize the NDP plan (a simple extension of her own plan)… at all.

Freeland’s new plan? A 40% CRB cut. That’s $800 less per month.

With inflation at a 10 year high, Canadians collecting CRB are about to feel these cuts very deeply.

Justin Trudeau and Chrystia Freeland’s callus cuts are going to hurt - at the worst possible time.

Canadians deserve better.
