Pharmacare for all

A message from Jagmeet Singh, Leader of Canada's NDP

Today, universal health care is a core Canadian value. We can’t imagine someone going without cancer treatment or heart surgery simply because they can’t pay for it.

But it wasn’t always that way. When Tommy Douglas led the charge for health care for all Canadians, it took guts. New Democrats kept up the fight to make sure everyone got the care they needed. They stood up for all Canadians and refused to settle for a half measure.

With the right leadership, we can make sure that everyone can afford the medication they need, too.

But it’s going to take the same determination to make the right choice for people, not pharmaceutical companies.

Trudeau’s Liberal government wants a patchwork system that will drive prescription prices even higher. And that won’t solve the problem too many Canadians are facing – going without their medication, or going into debt to afford it.

In the last few months, I met a kid who was more worried about the cost of his medication to his parents than he was about his diabetes.

And I met a family who had to make a heartbreaking choice – to risk one parent’s health to take care of their two kids, when they couldn’t afford all the medication their family needed.

I’ve never been more determined to make public, universal, comprehensive pharmacare happen.

Canadian families deserve it. We can afford it. It’s time to make sure everyone is covered.

Help us stand up to powerful companies and bandaid solutions that leave people out. Add your name to send the message that pharmacare needs to be public, universal, and comprehensive – a pharmacare plan for all.
