NDP urges Liberals to stop undermining the public service after learning of billions spent on outsourcing

After New Democrats learned in an Order Paper Question that the Liberals have given billions to mega-firms, and of close relationships between Deloitte and former cabinet ministers, NDP Public Services and Procurement critic, Gord Johns, made the following statement:

“Instead of supporting the hard-working public service employees who are out in the rain fighting for a fair deal, it feels like this government is undermining them by giving billions of dollars to these massive corporations for work that our public sector workers are able to do.

Canadians were shocked to learn of the Liberal handouts of more than $100 million to McKinsey, but that was just the tip of a very large iceberg.

In the last eight years, Justin Trudeau has given a billion dollars to Deloitte, almost a billion to PricewaterhouseCoopers, and hundreds of millions of dollars to McKinsey, Accenture and KPMG. When the Liberals could have been investing in Canada’s public service, our health care system, or creating programs to help people with rising costs – they instead opted to give billions in contracts to mega-firms.

To Canadians, it really seems like the Liberals are too busy lining the pockets of private, for-profit companies than actually working for Canadians.

On top of this, both former Liberal and Conservative ministers currently work for these companies.

Canadians are sick and tired of watching Liberal and Conservative governments handing out contracts to their ultra-rich friends. We have to stop this cycle, and that’s why New Democrats fought to investigate the companies who receive the most money in contracts from the government. We will keep fighting to make sure public service employees can do their work without consultants looking over their shoulders. We are urging the Liberals to end this reckless spending.”
