NDP Statement on Vesak

Canada’s NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh issued the following statement:

“Today, Buddhists around the world are celebrating Vesak, the most sacred day for the followers of Gautama Buddha.
Many Buddhists will visit their local temples, take part in chanting, and meditation rituals as well as offer gifts to show respect and gratitude for the Buddha’s life.
Let's take today to reflect on the Buddha’s universal teachings of peace and compassionate service toward those in need.
Vesak is an opportunity for us all to continue fighting for equality, fairness and building a more peaceful world.
On behalf of New Democrats, I extend my warmest wishes to everyone observing Vesak today and encourage all to embody the values of Vesak - by taking part in good deeds, lending a hand, and bringing happiness to those around us. “
