NDP Statement on Canadian Armed Forces Day

NDP Critic for National Defence, MP Lindsay Mathyssen (London-Fanshawe) made the following statement:

“Today, New Democrats want to express our deep appreciation for the brave men and women who serve in the Canadian Armed Forces. It takes an immense amount of sacrifice, commitment and dedication to undertake this work and uphold the principles of democracy, human rights and freedom.
Today we recognize those in our Navy, Air Force, the Canadian Armed Forces and the tens of thousands of Canadians currently serving in Regular and Reserve forces. These men and women protect our lands, assist during natural disasters, save lives, collaborate on humanitarian interventions, and work on peacekeeping missions.
There is a long way to go to properly support and respect our brave men and women. This government needs to ensure our armed forces have the tools and equipment they need to do their jobs and provide good services, such as housing and health care for them and their families. They deserve to work in an environment free from harassment, sexual misconduct and have the proper recourse for justice.
That’s why, on this day, and every day, New Democrats will keep fighting for our armed forces to have the support they need. They and their families have sacrificed so much for our country and should be treated with the respect they deserve.”
