NDP REALITY CHECK: Justin Trudeau - a part-time supporter of women’s right to choose

On Thursday, Liberal Leader Justin Trudeau will join Prince Edward Island Liberal Leader Wade MacLauchlan for some red team rah-rah at a Summerside rally.

Despite his previous high-profile statements supporting women’s right to choose, Trudeau plans to endorse the MacLauchlan Liberals, even though they have refused to meet a challenge by NDP Leader Mike Redmond to offer a full range of reproductive health services on the Island.

In fact, just yesterday MacLauchlan confirmed that he will keep PEI the only province in Canada to refuse to provide abortion services:

“As a small jurisdiction, there are a number of medical procedures – including abortion - that are provided and funded on an out-of-province basis and we wouldn’t see that part changing.” – PEI Liberal Leader Wade MacLauchlan, April 14, 2015

Let’s not forget, this is the same Liberal government that was recentlycaught suppressing a cost-saving proposal from their own officials to bring abortion services to PEI.

Justin Trudeau once was very clear: “the days when old men get to decide what a woman does with her body are long gone.” (September 18, 2014)

He claims his party “defends rights,” yet fails to do so.

Will Mr. Trudeau stand by his convictions and tell Wade MacLauchlan that women’s right to choose is non-negotiable, or does he support this anti-choice Liberal policy?

Canadians deserve better.
