Liberals are failing Canadians with the rising cost of living, they must act now

Leader of Canada's NDP, Jagmeet Singh, made the following statement:

"Canadians are feeling increasingly anxious as rising costs are making it difficult to feed their families and pay the bills. They survived the last two difficult years of the pandemic, only to come out of it and be hit with the skyrocketing costs of gas, groceries and rent.

People need action now – but instead of helping people make ends meet, the Liberal government is letting Canadians fend for themselves.

And worse, the Liberal government has cut the Canada Child Benefit, a benefit families rely on in their family budgets, for those who collected CERB when they needed it. Another huge blow for people already struggling to make ends meet.

The United Nations made it really clear: people are facing the largest cost of living crisis in a generation – they need more money in their pockets now to survive.

New Democrats know that when people are in crisis, leaders don't sit on the sidelines. Solutions exist to help families now like doubling the GST rebate and adding $500 to every Canada Child Benefit. We just need to act.

Instead, the Liberals continue to prioritize the profits of rich corporations and are once again leaving people to fend for themselves in a time of crisis. This is wrong. New Democrats don’t answer to the powerful – we fight for families. And we’ll keep fighting to make people’s lives more affordable.”
