Canada Post Corporation bars MP from facilities

OTTAWA – Canada Post Corporation has refused to give NDP MP Yvon Godin (Acadie–Bathurst) access to its distribution centre in Laval and to the Léo Blanchette centre in Montreal, despite having agreed Monday to a visit by the NDP Labour Critic.

“I don’t understand why Canada Post has made this about-face in the midst of labour negotiations,” said Mr. Godin. “What has it got to hide? Why refuse a site visit by an MP?”

Canada Post also cancelled its employees’ long-term disability and medical insurance during negotiations. “How can it do something like that under these circumstances? It’s shameful,” he said.

The MP questioned the Minister responsible for Canada Post twice today during the House of Commons Question Period, asking him to reinstate the benefits terminated by the corporation.
