NDP Research Office - Political Researcher – Permanent, Full-Time Position

Responsibilities

  • Provide timely political research on various topics, including through using Access to Information requests and Questions on the Order Paper
  • Monitor other parties, government legislation, ministerial programmes and budget estimates
  • Assist in the preparation of materials for daily Question Period
  • Write research products, including reality checks, press releases and briefing notes
  • Maintain files and assist members of caucus on policy issues or other matters pertaining to specific areas assigned by the Director
  • Attend meetings as required to facilitate research, policy analysis, and parliamentary goals
  • Work collaboratively within the Political Research and Issue Management department to advance the NDP caucus’ parliamentary goals
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Experience in investigative political research or reporting
  • Knowledge and experience working with Access to Information legislation, Questions on the Order Paper and other research tools
  • Demonstrated ability to synthesize information and provide timely, relevant and media-oriented analysis
  • Ability to provide timely policy analysis
  • Knowledge of the NDP and its policies, non-governmental organizations, labour movement and Canadian and Quebec political affairs
  • A creative approach to analyzing current political events and identifying political opportunities
  • Experience working with elected officials, with demonstrated sound political judgment
  • Ability to work well under pressure in a team and independently, while meeting strict deadlines
  • Demonstrated strong writing skills in French
  • Excellent computer skills, knowledge of data scraping is an asset
  • Bilingualism is required

Annual salary

$58,657

(salary levels subject to clauses 12 an d 21 of the collective agreement)
