NDP’s motion to investigate big firms with huge government outsourcing contracts to be voted on by all parties

OTTAWA – On Monday NDP Public Services and Procurement critic Gord Johns will lead a vote to expand the parliamentary committee investigation into the $100 million in McKinsey contracts to expand to other firms who’ve received even larger government contracts.

Johns’ motion, moved last week, includes looking into government contracts with Deloitte, PricewaterhouseCoopers, Accenture, KPMG, and Ernst & Young.

“Canadians have been rightly concerned with Liberals’ close relationship with McKinsey,” said Johns. “Canadians know this money could have been used to make people’s lives better by improving programs and investing in our public service— so they have a right to know exactly what we got, instead.”

If John’ motion passes, the most senior executives from companies who’ve received hundreds of millions of dollars in government contracts from both the Conservatives and Liberals, dating back to 2011, will be forced testify.

“When the Liberals are in power, their insiders get giant contracts. When the Conservatives are in power, their friends get giant contracts. Canadians deserve to understand why, when we have one of the best public services in the world, both the Liberals and Conservatives would rather give millions away to rich companies, than improve programs that help people, and work with our public service,” added Johns. “Canadians deserve a clear picture of government outsourcing, and that’s why New Democrats called to expand the investigation, so that we can get to the bottom of this and stop unnecessary government outsourcing to expensive consultants.”
