NDP Statement on Yom HaShoah

Canada’s NDP Leader, Jagmeet Singh, made the following statement:

“As Yom HaShoah begins tonight, let’s take a moment to remember the Holocaust and the six million Jewish lives lost.
It’s our collective responsibility to ensure that future generations remember this horrific event and that we commit to “Never Again.”
The Holocaust is a stark reminder of the need to defend democracy and human rights at all costs. Jewish people are often the first minority to be scapegoated when a democracy starts to slide, and all Canadians must be vigilant in standing up against antisemitism.
Unfortunately, Jewish Canadians have seen a rise in anti-Semitic attacks - most recently with a hate crime against a Montreal synagogue. More must be done. New Democrats call on all members of parliament to combat online hate speech and the displaying of hate symbols and provide more education on antisemitism.
New Democrats stand with the Jewish community as they begin their ceremonies honouring the lives lost, the survivors and all those impacted. We must never forget.”
