Liberals launch review to break promise on home mail delivery

OTTAWA — The Minister responsible for Canada Post, Judy Foote, announced today that her government won’t necessarily restore home mail delivery. This contradicts the Liberals’ promise during the election campaign.

“The Liberals are backtracking on their promises. That’s not the kind of change Canadians voted for,” said NDP Canada Post critic Karine Trudel (Jonquière). “The Minister must deliver on their promise and restore home mail delivery.”

Since 2014, hundreds of thousands of families have lost their door-to-door delivery. They are now learning that the Liberal government will not necessarily restore the service. But just last September at Montreal’s city hall, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau promised to restore home mail delivery.

“People expect a certain level of service from their government – that’s what the Prime Minister said at the time. Now it seems the government is backtracking on its promises.” added NDP Public Services and Procurement critic Erin Weir (Regina—Lewvan). “Canadians will be disappointed; they can count on the NDP, the progressive opposition, to hold the Liberal government to account.”
