Justin Trudeau’s failed record on climate change
In 2015, Justin Trudeau promised "an ambitious plan to reduce emissions in the country.”
That rhetoric might sound familiar. Here's what he did instead:
- Increased emissions more than any other G7 nation;
- Increased fossil fuel subsidies, (up $900 million/year over Harper);
- Bought a pipeline;
- Missed every climate target.
Just like Trudeau said of Stephen Harper in 2015: “He talks like that all the time, as if Canada were an environmental steward and leader. I think he’s even starting to believe his own rhetoric.”
The NDP plan sets emission reduction targets of 50% below 2005 levels by 2030 and will establish multi-year national and sectoral carbon budgets to meet that goal.
Jagmeet Singh:
“Justin Trudeau has talked about climate change for six years, but he’s refused to act. He has increased subsidies to big oil and gas companies and let carbon pollution keep going up. We can’t afford Mr. Trudeau’s inaction. It’s time to stand up to big polluters and fight the climate crisis for real.”
