The Liberals are rushing through a consequential new bill that would fast-track major projects at the expense of fundamental workers’ rights, Indigenous consent and consultation, and environmental protections.

As Canada faces growing threats and insecurity, Bill C-39 is a major test of the kind of Canada Mark Carney wants to build in response.

New Democrats and movements across the country are coming together to say: we can’t build a stronger Canada by trampling rights for corporate greed.

On Wednesday, October 14th, join Avi Lewis, Mark Hancock, Bushra Asghar and Ramon Kataquapit, for a mass organizing call on how we build the power to stop Bill C-39 and win a Canada that delivers for the many, not the money.

Speakers:

Mark Hancock was elected CUPE’s 6th National President in November 2015, following two terms as President and four terms as Secretary-Treasurer of CUPE BC. He believes CUPE and the labour movement have a pivotal role to play in defending workers’ rights, strengthening public services, growing union power, and building a fairer and more inclusive economy.

Bushra Asghar is a community organizer and campaign strategist with over a decade of experience spanning the student movement, anti-violence, climate justice, and electoral organizing.

She currently serves as Director of the national campaign for a Youth Climate Corps, working to secure public investment in paid climate jobs and training opportunities for young people across Canada.

Ramon Kataquapit is Mushkego Cree from Attawapiskat First Nation and Taino, Indigenous of Puerto Rico. He is founder of Okiniwak Youth Movement, mobilizing resistance to legislation such as C39 that threatens First Nations governance and environmental stewardship. He also sits on the youth council with Nishnawbe Aski Nation and Chiefs of Ontario.

RSVP today to join the call and tell the Liberals: Stop Bill C-39!
