After years of inaction by Justin Trudeau and his Liberal government, things are escalating in Nova Scotia. Mi’kmaw fishers and their communities are being terrorized with mob violence and their livelihoods are being destroyed.
Just this past week, Mi’kmaw fishers have been followed, threatened and barricaded. Their vehicles have been torched and mobs threatened to burn them out.
Justin Trudeau’s response has been to offer empty words and no action.
Leaders have a duty to step up, deescalate, and not disappear in times of crisis.
The Mi’kmaw have a right to a moderate liveihood was reconfirmed by the courts decades ago. The federal governmemt’s refusal to clearly uphold this right has led to the current situation.
Jagmeet has called out the violence against the Mi’kmaw people for what it is – terrorism.
Tell Justin Trudeau, the Mi’kmaw fishers need more than his empty words. He needs to act now.
