With just over two weeks left before September bills are due, Justin Trudeau is cutting millions of Canadians off the CERB without telling them how they’ll get the help they need.

The Liberal government’s vague announcement weeks ago about a parallel program doesn’t fix Employment Insurance and doesn’t provide any confidence to the millions of Canadians still struggling to make ends meet because of the pandemic.

Even before the pandemic, half of all Canadians were less than $200 from running out of money at the end of the month – and the pandemic has made this worse. People want to work. But if they can’t, they need to know they’ll still be able to keep a roof over their heads and food on the table for their families.

In the long term, more needs to be done to make Canada more equal for everyone. But right now, the government needs to implement a clear plan to fix EI for good, so all workers can access the support they need, when they need it – during a pandemic or not.

Tell Justin Trudeau and the Liberals: Cancelling CERB without a fix for millions of Canadians is irresponsible and unsafe. Fix EI for good – so every worker who needs help, gets it.
