The government can give a $900 million contract to their friends at “WE” and no-strings-attached support to corporations — but Canadians living with disabilities are still waiting for help.

Canadians living with disabilities need support to get through the COVID-19 crisis — but Justin Trudeau and the Liberals have completely left them behind.

People living on provincial and federal disability payments were already struggling financially before the pandemic and it’s getting even worse. The added costs as a result of the crisis — like delivery fees and medication — have caused significant hardship.

At our urging, the government announced COVID-19 financial support for seniors, students, workers, and businesses. But they have consistently left behind Canadians living with disabilities — even though they have been disproportionately affected.

Jagmeet and our NDP team fought hard to get all parties to agree that Canadians living with disabilities need help, but so far the Liberals have done nothing but stall.

They rushed almost a billion dollars out the door to their friends at WE, but have made Canadians with disabilities wait for months. Their first act was to give the big banks hundreds of millions of dollars while people with disabilities are an afterthought.
