Uphold the Right to Strike, Repeal Section 107

The Liberals have repeatedly used Section 107 of the Canadian Labour Code to violate workers’ Charter-protected right to strike, caving to Big Business and throwing workers under the bus.

New Democrats are calling on the Liberals and Conservatives to finally respect workers and eliminate Section 107, the government’s go-to strikebreaking tool.

In just two years, the Liberals have violated workers’ right to strike no less than 8 times through Section 107 of the Canada Labour Code.

Who have they used Section 107 against?

    • Air Canada flight attendants striking against unpaid labour (less than 12 hours after their strike began)
    • Rail workers fighting against unsafe working conditions and unhealthy work hours
    • Postal workers bargaining for fair wages and stronger rights for temporary employees
    • Port workers fighting against job-killing automation

Time and again, Carney continues to turn to his anti-worker playbook, caving to corporate executives and throwing workers under the bus.

Every time the Liberals invoke Section 107, it shows CEOs across Canada that they don’t need to offer workers fair wages – because the government will step in on their behalf when their bad-faith bargaining results in a strike.

Avi Lewis and the NDP have a clear message to the Liberal government: enough with the anti-worker strikebreaking tactics.

Bill C-247, tabled by NDP MP Leah Gazan, will repeal Section 107 and end violations of the right to strike for good.

Join Avi and the NDP in calling on the Liberals and Conservatives to uphold the right to strike and vote yes to Bill C-247.
