Full universal pharmacare – the kind Tommy Douglas imagined – means no one is left behind when it comes to the medication they need.

For decades, New Democrats have fought to implement a universal pharmacare program so that if a doctor gives you a prescription, you can get it for free. And with just 25 NDP MPs, we were able to secure the first steps towards that goal.

But the Liberals want to cut spending and stop our pharmacare plan in its tracks. And the Conservatives don’t even believe it should exist.

New Democrats have always used our power to deliver for people – from medicare, to dental care, to pharmacare. That doesn’t stop here.

We’ll fight to protect – and expand – our pharmacare program. With New Democrat voices at the table, the next phase of our pharmacare plan will include essential medications:

• Mental health medications for depression, anxiety, and ADHD

• Heart medications to prevent heart attacks and strokes

• Hormone therapy for women experiencing menopause and other common conditions, as well as for those who rely on it for gender-affirming care

And we won’t stop until every Canadian can access the medications they need to live a healthy life.
