Stop Bill C-39

The Liberals are rushing through a massive new bill that would fast-track major projects at the expense of fundamental workers’ rights, Indigenous consent and consultation, and environmental protections.

New Democrats and movements across the country are coming together to say: we can’t build a stronger Canada by trampling rights for corporate greed.

On September 21, the Liberals tabled new legislation that threatens the rights of workers, Indigenous peoples and our environment, all to fast-track major projects.

Workers’ rights: This bill attacks the constitutional right to strike, weakening workers’ bargaining power and making it easier for management to wait for the government to intervene.

Indigenous rights: This bill undermines Indigenous rights and weakens the principle of free, prior, and informed consent by fast-tracking projects and limiting Indigenous nations’ ability to influence decisions affecting their lands and communities.

Environmental rights: This bill weakens environmental safeguards by giving the government broad powers to push projects ahead while reducing environmental scrutiny and oversight.

As Canada faces growing threats and insecurity, Bill C-39 is a major test of the kind of Canada Mark Carney wants to build in response.

New Democrats are uniting with union organizers, Indigenous leaders and environmental activisits across Canada to fight back.
