Jagmeet and the NDP successfully passed a motion in House of Commons to unanimously express its horror at the recent mass shootings in Atlanta, extend its solidarity with the victims of the shooting and their families, and condemn the rise of anti-Asian racism and racist attacks throughout North America.
Anti-Asian racism is not new, but it is on the rise.
Justin Trudeau and the Liberal government must take further action to tackle hate crimes – words are not enough.
Jagmeet and the NDP are calling for the Liberal government to recognize that Canada is not immune and to act swiftly by:
Hosting a federal-provincial-territorial meeting to discuss the rise in hate crimes in Canada and to coordinate our collective efforts and identify best practices to countering this trend
Creating and properly fund dedicated hate crime units in every community in Canada
Establishing national standards for identifying and recording all hate incidents and their dispensation in the justice system, and
Working in collaboration with non-profits to facilitate the reporting of hate crimes.
Add your name and take action now.
