Across the country, Conservative governments are attacking reproductive rights. In New Brunswick, Blaine Higgs cut the funding for the Abortion Clinic 554. Justin Trudeau promised to do everything in his power to save this clinic, but he broke his promise, and the clinic is now forced to close its doors.
The closure of Abortion Clinic 554 in New Brunswick will deny access to abortion services for people in need in this province.
In 2019 and 2021, Justin Trudeau promised to do everything he could to save Clinic 554. He had the power and the resources to do so. Despite this, he broke his promise. Now, lives could be at risk.
Conservatives across the country are attacking these rights. As a concerted effort, Pierre Poilievre’s Conservatives recently voted in favour of backdoor legislation that attacked reproductive rights.
And while Justin Trudeau talks a good game, it’s clear he is not delivering the actions that are needed. He claims to want to protect reproductive rights, but fails to provide resources for trauma-informed abortion care. In Canada, many individuals seeking abortion services can’t access them. Only 1 in 6 hospitals offers abortion, and some provinces refuse to cover the cost of surgical abortion outside hospitals. Lack of access is even worse for people in rural areas and the North.
Everyone deserves safe, accessible abortion and reproductive healthcare services – no matter where they live or how much money they make.
Join Jagmeet Singh and the NDP in demanding Justin Trudeau to immediately save Abortion Clinic 554 and implement a national plan to expand abortion and reproductive health care access to all parts of Canada without barriers.
