Support for Indigenous businesses long overdue

NDP Deputy Critic for Crown-Indigenous Relations and Indigenous Services Gord Johns made the following statement:

"New Democrats have consistently called on the government to support Indigenous business owners and their workers since the pandemic began. It’s encouraging that the government has finally agreed to help support Indigenous businesses across the country."

"Indigenous tourism in Canada is growing incredibly quickly and, as an emerging sector of the economy, is particularly vulnerable. It’s crucial that these business owners and workers get direct assistance now. They have already waited months for help and continue to face tremendous financial uncertainty."

"Today’s announcement is a welcome step but the tourism season has already started and many businesses still have to remain closed. Further help will be needed over the coming months as we support Indigenous businesses on the path to recovery."
