The NPD Condemns the Bombings in Yemen

NDP Foreign Affairs Critic Guy Caron and International Development Critic Linda Duncan issued the following statement:

“Last week a gas station near a hospital in Kitaf, Yemen, was hit by bombs, killing 7 people, including 4 children. This attack, in a heavily populated civilian area, is an intolerable violation of international rights.
Over the past year, at least 226 Yemeni children were killed, and 217 more were injured during air raids led by the Saudi coalition.
We stand with the Yemeni children, and those who have petitioned for an end to the blockade imposed on Yemen and their right to safety, food, water and education under the Convention on the Rights of the Child.
We need to take responsibility for this humanitarian crisis. The Liberal government must immediately stop sending arms to Saudi Arabia. To continue postponing this decision is to deliberately ignore our collective responsibility to respect the fundamental rights of Yemeni people.
We stand with countless of our constituents in urging the Canadian government to end the export of Canadian made weapons to Saudi Arabia. What other proof do they need to stop?
New Democrats are calling for the full respect of international humanitarian law. We will continue to put pressure on the Liberal government to have the courage to immediately put an end to the sale of arms to Saudi Arabia.”
