NDP Wants Answers from Liberals on Pension Consultations

OTTAWA – In their budget last February, the Liberal government announced that they would hold consultations on improving pension security for seniors. The NDP’s Pensions Critic Scott Duvall has been demanding answers from the Seniors Minister Filomena Tassi about when and how these consultations will be held.

“Last week, I asked the government why they have not followed through with consultations on retirement security as they promised in their budget,” said Duvall. “The Minister said, “consultations have and will continue to take place”. Yet no one has heard or has seen anything about these promised consultations.”

There has been no public announcement that those consultations have occurred or that they will take place anytime soon. The Liberal government’s lack of action on holding consultations about retirement security shows that they are not living up to their promises and not working on behalf of Canadian workers and retirees.

“We will keep pushing this Liberal government to do the right thing. They must live up to their promise to hold consultations on pension security and they must amend the law to end pension theft to protect the livelihood of Canadians workers and retirees” stressed Duvall.
