NDP Statement on the Tragic Shooting in Nova Scotia

NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh made the following statement:

"We're all struggling with the heartbreaking and senseless violence that took place yesterday in Nova Scotia.

In the last several weeks, we have all witnessed the courage of our first responders - the ones who run towards the danger to keep the rest of us safe.

We remember RCMP Constable Heidi Stevenson - who lost her life trying to protect others. She was a 23 year veteran of the RCMP - and a mother to two young daughters, who are left with a grief that few of us can understand.

Every one of the victims is a tremendous loss to their families, and their communities.

They were teachers, nurses, and volunteer firefighters. Moms and dads; friends and neighbours.

They were loved by their families and depended on by their communities.

We know that the shock and grief at the losses is made so much more painful by the fact that families and friends are not able to gather together to comfort each other. And that families and friends may not be able to visit their loved ones who are injured and in the hospital because of COVID-19.

To the families, loved ones and the people of Nova Scotia - we are all with you in this very difficult time."
