NDP Statement on Navratri

Jagmeet Singh, Leader of Canada’s NDP, issued the following statement:

“Today marks the beginning of Navratri, a nine day festival which marks one of the most important times of the year for the Hindu community in Canada and around the world.

This is a celebration of light in the face of darkness - the triumph of good over evil. Around the world, Navratri is celebrated over nine consecutive nights, as family and friends come together to worship, share meals, and participate in dances and other cultural activities.

The nine nights of Navratri culminate in Vijayadashami, the tenth day, which signals the start of preparations for Diwali, the 5-day festival of lights that begins twenty days later. Over the next nine days, let’s all reflect on the important contributions made by the Hindu community to our country.

On behalf of all New Democrats, I extend my warmest wishes to all those in Canada and around the world who are celebrating Navratri.”
