NDP statement on Quebec's National Holiday and Saint-Jean Baptiste Day

Jagmeet Singh, Leader of Canada’s NDP, issued the following statement:

Today, I offer my best wishes to all Quebecers who are celebrating Quebec's National Holiday.

Today is a day to celebrate the continued vibrancy of Quebec’s culture, and pay tribute to its distinctive language, history and traditions.

This nation’s rich cultural traditions, the beauty of its land and the strength of its economy, along with our shared values of equality, freedom, and democracy, ensure that Québec’s uniqueness will continue to shape our identity as Canadians.

New Democrats also wish a Happy Saint-Jean-Baptiste Day to all Francophones across Canada also celebrating their French culture and language, thus contributing to the richness and cultural diversity of our country.

From generation to generation, Canada’s Francophones have worked tirelessly to preserve their French language and culture. The continued presence of a living French language in communities from coast to coast to coast is a source of immense pride for all Canadians.

On this day, let’s commit ourselves to protecting this heritage, and take time to enjoy this important day with family and friends.
