NDP joins “Black Out, Speak Out” campaign against C-38

Joins environmental organizations with concerns about Trojan Horse bill

OTTAWA – Today, the NDP joined the campaign Black Out, Speak Out to protest against Conservative bill C-38 which weakens our most crucial legislation on environmental protection.

For the occasion, the website www.ndp.ca will be plunged into black and white to speak out against the Conservatives’ attempt to silence environmental organizations and the public on our environment.

“The Conservatives want to weaken our environmental protections by accelerating the development of oil pipelines, reducing environmental assessments and limiting the right of environmental charities to speak out,” said NDP Environment Critic, Megan Leslie.

“These changes are not only immoral; they’re downright dangerous for our environment. We encourage as many people as possible to express their disapproval of Bill C-38,” added Leslie. “The Conservatives tried to hide their changes in the colossal bill and avoid debate, but we won’t let them violate our environmental rules without protest.”

The NDP also invites people to express themselves against Bill C-38 on its website. The NDP held a series of public consultations across the country to spread as much information on the bill as possible to Canadians.
