A message from Jagmeet Singh on Pharmacare for all

We’re going to save families $500 a year and cover every Canadian. Here’s how.

Across Canada, people are having to make impossible choices every day – seniors are cutting their pills in half in order to make them last, and families are being forced to choose between paying rent on time or filling their prescriptions.

People are hurting from these impossible choices – like Marilyn, a hardworking mom in British Columbia who has to watch her husband go without lifesaving heart medication so they can pay for the health care their kids need. Trying to keep up with skyrocketing housing costs and monthly bills means Marilyn is never sure her family is going to make it to the end of each month.

And even for people with coverage, the cost of deductibles and copays can make it hard to make ends meet.

Trudeau’s Liberal government wants a patchwork plan that works for their friends at the big pharmaceutical and insurance companies – but leaves too many people out. And with Canadians paying some of the highest drug prices in the world, we need to have the courage to fight for a solution that actually helps everyday people.

That’s why I was so excited to announce our plan that will cover every Canadian and save families $500 a year on average – even if they have coverage already.

Our plan will let you use your health card instead of your credit card, and save $4.2 billion across the country by letting us work together to lower the cost of drugs for everyone. And it will put an end to impossible choices for people like Marilyn.

I’m hoping you’ll join our NDP team as we fight for public, universal, comprehensive Pharmacare for all Canadians. You can find out more about our plan and share your story here.
