Happy Thanksgiving!
Jagmeet Singh, Leader of Canada’s NDP, issued the following statement:
“Today Canadians are getting together with friends and family for Thanksgiving, a celebration of the bountiful harvest season and to give thanks for the beautiful country we call home.
Canadians have much to be thankful for. We live in a peaceful and prosperous country with an abundance of resources and opportunities.
Yet, far too many Canadians still struggle every day just to make ends meet. I keep hearing stories about parents who can’t give their children a good start in life, and who worry about how they’ll afford post-secondary education, let alone paying for the basic necessities of life. I also hear stories from people who cannot pay for their medicine or for the long-term care of their aging parents.
In today’s economic uncertainty, these basic costs are simply out of reach for too many Canadians. This should not be happening in a country as rich as Canada.
New Democrats are committed to building a Canada where no one is left behind. This is the vision that guides our work in Ottawa and across this country. In that spirit, I encourage those who can, to reach out to those who are less fortunate.
On this Thanksgiving Day, let’s all commit to a Canada where no one is left behind—one where we all have reason to give thanks.
Happy Thanksgiving!”
