Elections Canada cleared NDP on use of mailings

When asked by Liberals and Conservatives about NDP mailings, Elections Canada rejected the idea that mail sent outside of an election period is electoral in nature.

On March 27, 2014, Chief Electoral Officer Marc Mayrand sent a letter to the Chair of the Board of Internal Economy, where he stated unequivocally:

"In the case of mailings sent by a Member of Parliament, Elections Canada's long-standing position is that when a mailing is issued prior to the writ, or when the mailing is in transit when the election is called and the member is unable to stop the delivery, the mailing is not a regulated expense"

That’s on the record.

Canadians deserve to have their elected parliamentarians focused on them, not just on meeting Ottawa lobbyists – or on Kangaroo court attacks.
