Responsibilities

  • Co-ordinate and manage issues and outreach opportunities and events relating to the Member’s work in the riding (including visibility and constituent feedback)
  • Attend events and meetings as the Member’s official representative
  • Monitor events in riding and advise the Member on issues concerning the riding
  • Develop excellent media relations in the riding
  • Liaise with various federal government departments, territorial and community organizations
  • Schedule Member’s constituency activities and liaise with Parliament Hill office to coordinate Member’s schedule
  • In conjunction with Member’s Ottawa Office, assist with media and communications work, including preparing newsletters and mailings
  • In consultation with Parliament Hill office, coordinate and manage outreach opportunities relating to the Member’s work in the riding
  • Manage and respond to constituent casework including outreach and preparing correspondence, as needed
  • Travel as required
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English, including media relations
  • Strong organizational skills, ability to work under pressure and to meet deadlines
  • Strong computer skills including Internet, Windows and MS Office
  • Knowledge of government departments and community organizations
  • Knowledge of the New Democratic Party and sound political judgement
  • Knowledge of Nunavut and riding priorities
  • Desktop publishing, graphic design and layout skills, an asset
  • Experience working with social media (e.g. Facebook, YouTube, Twitter, etc.), an asset
  • Relevant post-secondary education or equivalent experience
  • Bilingualism (Inuktitut and English), strong asset
  • Vehicle and license, an asset

Annual salary

$70,000

(salary levels subject to clauses 12 and 21 of the collective agreement)
