Mumilaaq Qaqqaq, MP - Constituency Assistant, Permanent, Full-Time Position

Responsibilities
- Manage and respond to constituent casework including intake, outreach and correspondence
- Administer and log incoming phone calls, emails, faxes and walk-in traffic
- Liaise with various federal government departments, territorial and community organizations
- Assist with Member’s constituent correspondence
- General administrative and reception duties
- Maintain database lists and direct mail to constituents in coordination with Ottawa parliamentary office
- Represent Member at events and meetings when required
- Advise Member on events and issues in the constituency
- Assist in coordination of Member’s schedule
- Travel across the riding as required
- Other duties as required
Qualifications
- Excellent communication skills (verbal and written) in English
- Strong organizational skills, ability to work under pressure and to meet deadlines
- Proven research and case work skills
- Strong computer skills including Internet, Windows and MS Office
- Knowledge of government departments and community organizations
- Knowledge of the New Democratic Party and sound political judgement
- Knowledge of Nunavut riding and riding priorities
- Experience with database management, an asset
- Media relations skills, an asset
- Education in Social Work, or equivalent experience, an asset
- Bilingualism (Inuktitut and English), a strong asset
- Access to a vehicle is considered an asset
- Driver’s license required
Annual salary
$70,000
(salary levels subject to clauses 12 and 21 of the collective agreement)
