Deputy Director of Outreach – Tour, Permanent, Full-time Position

Objectives

Working with the Director of Outreach, and other members of the senior management team, assist the Leader in carrying out his public responsibilities by planning his digital and in-person activities.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, organize and manage a variety of nation-wide outreach activities to advance the NDP caucus’ parliamentary goals and agenda
  • Plan and implement the Leader’s itinerary and schedule in collaboration with the Chief of Staff, Director of Outreach and Communication team
  • Plan the long-term strategic direction of the tour to increase the Leader’s profile and that of the NDP Members of Caucus
  • Seek out new and creative ways of engaging with people across the country
  • Work with NDP Members of Parliament, provincial sections and caucuses, and other
  • organizations to develop the Leader’s tour plans consistent with the Leader’s and the Party’s strategic goals
  • Handle speaking requests for the Leader, arrange meetings, phone calls, and other items in the Leader’s schedule
  • Prepare detailed inside itineraries for the Leader and staff traveling with the Leader
  • Liaise with community groups, business, labour, stakeholders and other organizations to execute outreach and tour strategies
  • Assist with recruitment, hiring and management of personnel
  • As a member of the Management Team, work collaboratively to advance the NDP Caucus parliamentary goals and agenda
  • Ensure that all logistics, details for events are confirmed, and monitor travel and tour-related expenses to ensure compliance with House of Commons guidelines
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Direct experience in planning and scheduling tours and events, including some knowledge of the airline and hospitality industries
  • Proven organizational skills and ability to plan, execute, and document travel plans
  • Experience in outreach, event planning, or issue-based campaigns
  • A minimum of 2 years at a management level with human resources or personnel management
  • Access to broad networks, especially labour and social movements
  • Willingness to work irregular hours and to travel occasionally if required
  • The ability to manage and motivate an effective and cohesive staff team
  • Knowledge of Canadian politics, and the parliamentary system
  • Familiarity with the New Democratic Party, its policies and structure
  • Proven ability to work within tight deadlines and under pressure
  • Excellent interpersonal communications, computer and organizational skills
  • Ability to work well in a creative team environment
  • Strong communications skills
  • Bilingualism is an asset
