Big money investors are driving up the costs of houses. No one can win a bidding war against wealthy investors with deep pockets who are looking to turn a profit, not build a neighbourhood.
Jagmeet Singh and the NDP will actually take on international housing speculators to solve the housing crisis. That’s why we’ll put in place a 20% Foreign Buyer’s tax on the sale of homes to individuals who aren’t Canadian citizens or permanent residents, and use the revenue to support renters and help build 500,000 homes for Canadian families.
