What is Slack?

Slack is a free online communications hub where members can communicate and collaborate. The NDP-NPD Slack is a fun and respectful environment where NDP supporters can feel comfortable engaging with each other.

All members of the NDP-NPD Slack community agree to follow the community guidelines found in the NDP-NPD Slack channel: #conduct-code-conduite

Slack Channels:

Once you join the NDP-NPD Slack community, you will be automatically added to some default public channels. There are many other topic-specific public channels which all members are free to join. These can be found in the channels menu on the left.

Open the channel browser to browse and join channels in the NDP-NPD workspace:

  1. Click the Channels section header in the left sidebar.
  2. This opens the channel browser, listing all the public channels in the workspace.
  3. Click a channel to preview it.
  4. Tap Join Channel to become a member.

The icon to the left of a channel's name lets you know the channel type:

  • The # hashtag icon means the channel is public.
  • The lock icon means the channel is private.

*You can only see and browse private channels where you are a member.

Slack Messages:

To communicate in the NDP-NPD Slack, you can send a message in a group channel or send someone a direct message (DM).

To send someone a direct message, click the Direct Messages section header in the left sidebar. This opens the direct message browser where you can search for a specific member of the NDP-NPD Slack community.
