Consistently looking for new ways to better engage members in the Party’s democratic processes, the NDP is launching an innovative voting process for its 2017 leadership race.
There will be multiple rounds of balloting, until a candidate has received the support of 50%+ 1 member. There will be a maximum of 5 rounds of voting. If there are 6 or more candidates, only the five candidates with the highest share of the vote in the first round will be eligible for the second ballot. For the following rounds of balloting, the candidate with the lowest vote share will be eliminated for the next round.
How will voting take place?
The ballot will be a preferential, ranked choice ballot where eligible voters can rank the candidates in their preferred order.
Eligible voters may cast their ballot in one of two ways: a mail-in ballot or an online ballot. Only members choosing to vote with an online ballot will be able to change their vote at any time before each round of voting ends.
Who’s eligible to vote?
In order to vote for the Leader, you need to become a member of the NDP no later than August 17, 2017. Don’t wait till the last minute to sign-up to make sure your membership is processed in time!
