- Elected the Member of Parliament for Sault Ste. Marie in 2004, re-elected in 2006
- Launched the NDP’s “End Poverty in Canada” campaign in 2006
- Member of the all-party Border Caucus, Steel Caucus, Outdoors Caucus and the NDP’s social policy, aboriginal and agriculture committees
- Was a major player in the successful restructuring of ASI and St. Mary’s Paper
- Community involvement has included youth work with the Catholic Church and as Coordinator of the Soup Kitchen Community Centre and General Manager of a co-op housing construction company
- Born in Ireland; has been a resident of Northern Ontario since 1960
- Married to Anna Celetti; they have four children
