For far too long, we have let private and economic interests mortgage the health of our river for future generations. It is time to put Nature back at the centre of our concerns and put her rights before corporate greed.
The St. Lawrence River is one of our country’s most precious gems. With its nearly 1200 kilometres course, the river is the majestic home to hundreds of species of fauna and flora.
We in the NDP fully agree with the approach of the International Observatory for the Rights of Nature: if we really want to protect essential waterway, we will have to give the river its own legal status s, just like the Magpie River.
