On behalf of my party, caucus and staff, I extend best wishes to the people of India as they celebrate Independence Day.
I am proud to represent so many from the Indian community in my riding of Toronto-Danforth. I am especially proud that the Indian community continues to be a jewel in both South Asia and Canada, with its rich history and traditions.
In such a short period, India has come a long way—it’s the largest democracy in the world with one of the fastest growing economies. It is also an example of multiculturalism for the world, with so many diverse religions, languages, cultures and customs.
Again, on behalf of all New Democrats, I extend my very best as you mark 63 years of independence.
Jai Hind!
