Reality Check: Ignatieff Liberals show more signs of concern

Media invited to the Liberal caucus meeting today were greeted by Michael Ignatieff waving a gigantic sign warning them that “Liberals are Working”.

The caution sign is appropriate. For jobs, the economy, or for the environment, Canadians haven’t been used to seeing Liberal MPs working at all.

Time after time, Liberals could have worked with New Democrats put road blocks in front of the minority Conservative agenda, but waved them through instead. Consider these troubling signs shown by Liberal MPs in the last session:

• When New Democrats needed help to pass our bill to target greenhouse gases, 20 Liberal MPs weren’t at work. (21 October 2009)
• When New Democrats needed help to stop Stephen Harper’s HST tax hike, 10 Liberal MPs weren’t at work. (9 December 2009)
• When New Democrats were working to get $1 billion in new assistance for 190,000 unemployed, Liberal MPs were trying to get an election instead.

As the Ontario Ministry of Transportation Drivers Guide cautions:

“Warning signs: Diamond-shaped and have a yellow background with black letters or symbols. These signs warn of dangerous or unusual conditions ahead such as a curve, turn, dip or sideroad.”
