Friday Gilles Duceppe reached his 20-year anniversary as a sitting member of Parliament for the Canadian House of Commons.
The traditional gift for the 20th anniversary is china, but we doubt any of his caucus colleagues have decided to chip in. But no worries Gilles – your silver 25th Anniversary is within reach!
As Mr. Duceppe celebrates being a Member of Parliament for just over 20 years, let’s flash back to when he was first elected to Parliament. In 1990 Roch Voisine was tearing up the charts internationally. Just 3 short years from his epic hit "I'll always be there" which is now fair to assume was dedicated to long political life of Mr. Duceppe.
Duceppe, clearly fond of Ottawa, has achieved great success in being one of the longest serving MPs. Alas, he has been beaten out by the current Dean of the House, and fellow Bloc MP Louis Plamondon first elected in 1984. With only six fewer years of service, the Bloc Leader may soon be in the running for longest serving MP.
Will we see another anniversary coming, silver?
