OTTAWA – New Democrat Leader Jack Layton is welcoming the support of Liberal Leader Michael Ignatieff for the NDP proposal to limit the Prime Minister’s power to prorogue Parliament.
“We’re here today to work on behalf of Canadians, and tell the Prime Minister that we’re going to make sure he can never abuse his power to dismiss Parliament again. It’s time for a new politics,” said Layton. “I am encouraged that Mr. Ignatieff has come around to supporting the idea that the Prime Minister’s power to prorogue Parliament must be limited, and I am hopeful a similar announcement will come soon from the Bloc.”
Layton will call Ignatieff and Duceppe to discuss moving forward on the New Democrat proposal.
