Statement from New Democrat Leader Jack Layton on the start of Ramadan

Assalam-O-Alaikum.

As Muslims start to observe Ramadan in Canada and around the world, I send greetings and good wishes to them all.

The holy month of Ramadan is a special time to come together for prayer and fasting. It is a time to reflect on the past and look forward to the future.

Canada is very thankful to the Muslim community for their contributions. We are a stronger nation with their generosity, commitment and compassion.
