With the 2010 Olympics finally underway and the world’s top winter athletes gathering in Vancouver, on behalf of New Democrats from coast to coast to coast, I would like to extend the warmest wishes and best of luck to all of the Canadian men and women who will be competing.
All those who have worked with VANOC to prepare for these games - from Board members to volunteers - have good reason to take pride in what they have accomplished. And Vancouverites, indeed all British Columbians, can hold their heads a little higher as the world’s focus turns to this beautiful part of our country.
Over the next 16 days, we will gather in our living rooms, local pubs, and community centres to follow our athletes through what is widely predicted to become Canada’s most successful Olympics to date. The competition will grip us and the medal race will no doubt excite us, but it is the hard work, drive and sense of fair play that I hope truly inspires us all.
Once again, to the entire Canadian Olympic team, good luck! We’re behind you!
Go Canada Go!
