Statement by New Democrat leader Jack Layton on the death of Master Cpl. Francis Roy in Afghanistan

It was with great sadness that I learned today of the death of Master Cpl. Francis Roy, of the Canadian Special Operations Regiment, in Afghanistan.

On behalf of all New Democrats, I would like to offer my condolences to Master Cpl. Roy‘s family, friends and fellow soldiers in this difficult time.

Master Cpl. Roy took on a difficult and dangerous job and we owe him and his colleagues a debt of gratitude for stepping forward to serve our country.

The service and sacrifice of all those we have lost will never be forgotten.
