On July 1st the HST took effect in Ontario, increasing the cost of theatre tickets throughout the province, and restricting Canadians’ access to our great cultural resources. No place in Ontario will feel these effects more than the city of Stratford and their great Theatre Festival.
While Michael Ignatieff enjoys a lunch break in the fair city of Stratford, one cannot forget the key role his party played in bringing forward the HST.
All the world's a stage, and all the men and women merely players. They have their exits and their entrances; And one man in his time plays many parts. - As You Like It. Act II, Scene VII*
When the man playing the role of leader of the opposition was asked about the HST, Michael Ignatieff simply said:
“I’m the leader of the opposition, I got no position to clarify” - CP, September 18, 2009.
A masterpiece!
Misery acquaints a man with strange bedfellows. - The Tempest. Act II, Scene II**
Let’s not forget that on December 3rd, Ignatieff’s Liberal caucus voted unanimously with the Harper Conservatives to impose the culture-killing HST.
Together they turned their backs on hard working families in Ontario. Strange bedfellows indeed!
The Bard of Avon would have loved such rich drama!
